报告摘要：This paper presents empirical evidence of how the tourism booms caused by China’s national tourism promotion program, National AAAAA Level Tourist Attractions (5A Policy), altered educational attainment. Exploiting the staged rollout of the program for causal identification, we show that educational attainment decreased with local expansions in tourism industries. The magnitudes suggest that 5ALTAs led to a statistically significant 3.5 percentage points decrease in the likelihood of high school. We also show these effects are driven by the rising opportunity cost of schooling for teenagers at the margin and the decreasing human capital investment of households. Our results indicate the unintended negative consequences of service sector expansion on long-term individual human capital accumulation.

主讲人简介：亢延锟，中央财经大学经济学院博士生，主要研究方向为发展经济学和劳动经济学。在《经济研究》、《世界经济》、《中国工业经济》、《经济学（季刊）》、《China Economic Review》、《Journal of Corporate Finance》、《Research Policy》等中英文权威刊物发表论文十余篇。担任《Journal of Asian Economics》、《经济学（季刊）》、《数量经济与技术经济研究》等期刊匿名审稿人，先后获得谭崇台发展经济学奖，中央财经大学研究生“龙马学术之星”等荣誉。
